Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information CaptureWizard collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. We've tried to write it in plain language. The short version: you can use CaptureWizard's Free plan without an account, your screenshots and recordings stay on your device until you decide otherwise, and we don't sell or rent your personal information to anyone.

CaptureWizard (“CaptureWizard,” “we,” “us”) provides a browser extension and related apps for capturing, annotating, recording and sharing your screen. This policy covers our marketing website, the extension and apps, and any optional cloud features you turn on.

Information we collect

We try to collect as little as possible. What we collect depends on how you use CaptureWizard:

• Nothing required to use Free. You can install the extension and capture, annotate and record without creating an account. Captures made this way are processed and stored locally on your device — we don't receive them.
• An email, only if you create an account. If you choose to sign up (for example, to enable cloud sync), we collect your email address and basic account details so we can create and secure your account. If you sign in with a third-party provider such as Google, we receive your email and name from that provider.
• Basic technical data. Like most software, our servers may record limited diagnostic information such as error reports, app version and approximate region when you connect to an optional online feature. This helps us keep the service reliable and secure.
• Messages you send us. If you email us or use the contact form, we keep your message and contact details so we can reply.

We do not ask for, and CaptureWizard does not need, more personal information than the above to do its job.

Your captures

Your screenshots and recordings are your content. Here is how they're handled:

• Local by default. Captures, annotations and recordings are created and stored on your own device. If you never turn on cloud sync, they never leave it through CaptureWizard.
• Cloud sync is optional and opt-in. Cloud sync — which keeps a copy in your CaptureWizard library so it's searchable across devices and shareable by link — is off until you explicitly enable it. You choose what to upload.
• Share links are your choice. A capture only becomes accessible by link when you create a share link for it. You can revoke that link, and delete the capture, at any time.

We don't open, view, scan or analyze the contents of your captures to build advertising or marketing profiles.

How we use information

We use the limited information we collect to:

• Provide, maintain and secure the extension, apps and your account;
• Store and sync your library when you've turned on cloud sync, and deliver share links you create;
• Respond to your support requests and questions;
• Diagnose problems, prevent abuse, and improve reliability and performance;
• Send essential service messages (for example, security or account notices). We'll only send product or marketing email if you opt in, and you can unsubscribe anytime.

We do not use your information to build advertising profiles, and we do not sell it.

Analytics & tracking

We keep analytics minimal. We may use privacy-respecting, aggregate measurements to understand which features are used and where things break — for example, counts of how often a tool is opened — so we can improve CaptureWizard. We do not use advertising trackers, third-party ad networks, or cross-site tracking pixels, and we do not build a profile of you to target ads. We don't sell your data. Where the law gives you the right to opt out of analytics, you can do so in your settings or by contacting us.

Cookies

Our website and signed-in dashboard use a small number of cookies (or similar local storage) that are necessary to make the site work — for example, to keep you signed in and remember basic preferences such as dismissing the announcement bar. We don't use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, though some features may stop working if you do.

Third-party services

CaptureWizard connects to other tools only when you ask it to. If you send a capture to a service like Slack, Trello, Jira, Asana or Google Drive, that content is shared with that service at your direction and is then governed by that service's own privacy policy. We don't share your captures with any third party unless you initiate it.

We also rely on a small set of trusted infrastructure providers (for example, hosting and email delivery) to operate the service. These providers process data only on our behalf and under agreements that require them to protect it.

Data retention & deletion

We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes above. Specifically:

• Local captures remain on your device until you delete them — we have no copy.
• Synced captures stay in your library until you delete them or close your account.
• Account details are kept while your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymize associated personal data within a reasonable period, except where we must retain limited records to comply with the law.

Your rights

You're in control of your information. Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you;
• Export your captures and account data in a portable form;
• Correct information that's inaccurate;
• Delete your captures or your entire account.

You can manage and export much of this yourself from your dashboard. For anything else, email privacy@capturewizard.com and we'll help. We won't charge you for exercising these rights, and we won't penalize you for it.

Children's privacy

CaptureWizard isn't directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country), and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we'll delete it.

Changes to this policy

As CaptureWizard grows we may update this policy. When we make a material change, we'll update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, give you additional notice. Continuing to use CaptureWizard after an update means you accept the revised policy.
